Hi, me and my wife came to Key West one year ago straight from Bulgaria. First - we like it here. She is working, i`m between jobs now, weather is fine, people are nice, it is small, beautiful and safe place, and we are doing ok here. What i do not like - the rentals and the beaches. Prices for 1 bedroom hole are above 1400. And there is no decent beach in KW. I mean with nice sand and good to swim. And maybe there are a lot of weird people here, we are just a normal couple, but that is other question, and they are everywhere..
So, I am still researching for better place, and I still want to live in Florida, but i can`t find this place, maybe because it does not exist..I am still looking for:
- Small Town - just like Key West - up to 50000, and with less than 20min commute
- Clean and safe - cleaner than KW..
- With rental for 1-2 bedroom house up to 1000..
- Near nice beach
Just small, nice and clean place to live calm, work and raise our future children in beautiful Florida..If you give me some ideas, i will research the job markets..Thanks!

Pass-A-Grille

That whole area around there is better than Key West, imo. Not in terms of entertainment, but better beachy look and feel.

I'm sure there are people on here that'll suggest a good area but why did you move to Key West in the first place, whenever the subject of Key West comes up,it being very expensive, having no real beach, full of strange people and lack of good jobs are the main points of why it's not exactly a great place to live.I'm sure there's somewhere along either coast of Florida that would work for you.

It's on the complete opposite end of the state, but would suggest checking out Fernandina Beach and neighboring Yulee. It hits all of your criteria pretty much including good schools.

Fernandina Historic District Downtown | Amelia Island

check out Stuart or Jensen Beach, we love that area. I've also heard that Vero Beach is nice

I second that, except for the Cocoa part - maybe Cocoa Beach. The Melbourne beachside, Suntree and Viera areas are also very nice, hit on what you are looking for and are close to the beach.

Naples, Fl might work for you. The county has a population of about 350,000 but you can't tell it does. If you don't mind going a little more north then Punta Gorda has less people and is only about 10 degrees colder than Key West.

Thanks a lot for all opinions! Any idea is welcome, i will take a look at all of your suggestions, we are not in a hurry. It is not necessary the City to be exactly on the beach, 20-30 min away is ok, we are not tanning every day, and i hope we will be working there. And again - small and safe area with house rentals up to 1000. And i promise i will tell if i find it before you! Have a good night!
