Not a bad proposal, macguy, but it could still be rendered meaningless if there are no legislatively enforced caps also on local government spending and/or millage rates.

I also like the idea of a homeowner having the right to sell his house to the county at the assessed value the county appraiser assignes to it: now that's putting your money where your mouth is.

Yet what will the homestead exemption be? This is a good idea but it needs a 75% median value homestead exemption. I am against all caps on increases if the assessments start from an unequal point. If a cap in assessments is used, it should be retroactive to the original purchase price of the home, and SOH destroyed.

I do support the idea of a property owner being able to sell to the county.

Whatever is decided, we all need to think very hard before giving up the Save our Homes Exemption.

In my case it would cut my taxes from around $6500 to $4000 but then I am opening myself up to greater than 3% annual increases in my homes value.

Seeing the appetitite our governments have for spending money, I'm very concerned about doing that.

So even if the new amendment passes, I'm not giving up "Save our Homes"
