Landed in Delray Beach two years ago from Dallas where I was for Three years (married a Texan). Prior to Dallas was Harding Twp, NJ for nine years (with a year stint in Melbourne AUS). Lived most of my life in Boston where I was born and lived for 20 years...

Nice to see that we have a variety of people from many different places who are living in a variety of towns across Florida.

What is also nice to see is that many of the forum members have been in Florida a LONG time - and are here to help us newcomers and those preparing to move to Florida. I know this forum was a big help to me while still in Ohio, and continues to be a valuable source of information now that we live in wonderful Vero Beach.

This is our first winter here, and boy have the snowbirds arrived ! We saw four cars with Canadian plates at Lowes on Saturday, and it's rare not to see out of state plates while driving now. Yep, Florida has two seasons, Permanent Resident Season and Snowbird Season !

Well.....

That can be a good thing and a bad thing.....I think it depends on what you WANT to hear...

For instance...if anyone would have asked me for advice about moving to Florida during the first 10-12 years I lived here they would have received different advice from me than they would if they asked me today.

Of course....my advice would also depend on where you are moving FROM....

In many cases, moving to Florida is an overall upgrade from where people used to live.....

In many other cases, it is not an "overall" upgrade....certainly an upgrade in winter weather...

But in many other areas of life it can be a substantial downgrade....

"Getting away from the snow" can be nice....but the "novelty" of warm winters and no snow can definitely wear off after time....It did for me..

So it just depends on the particular situation.....

There are TONS OF PEOPLE here from Ohio.....

I know the winters there are usually very cold, snowy, grey, and long.......

So I'm guessing that's the primary reason that people move here......

Just be advised that you may find (other than winter weather) that there are many things about where you came from that are better than Florida.
