My friends nephew, who is a spearfishing guide in Key West was recently paid $25K to take a kid on a three week spearfishing trip to the Bahamas, all expenses paid on a rented 65' yacht provided by the kids rich father.

The kids dad spent over $90K for the entire trip and hired a professional videographer to document the entire trip. Their YouTube video is here:

Spearfishing in the Bahamas 2013 - YouTube

My friends nephew and the rich kid are the guys diving in the video - pretty cool vid. The father thought that the $90K was a "deal", as he usually spends over $200K in the Hamptons for his son every summer. Gotta love how the wealthy shop for deals!

The point being is to move to KW, become a guide and cross your fingers that your picked for next years trip to the Bahamas. Easy and fun $25K in 3 weeks! Lol.

True. A lot of guys do make $15 - $20 per hour but its all piece work though. If you know what you are doing, a lot of guys can make 5x - 10x that easy. Most actual cable company employees (employeed directly by the cable company, like me), make somewhere between $12 - $35 per hour plus have great perks and benefits, and supervisors (like me) can make more. So we're not doing too bad and I'm happy.

I make decent coin working in construction mngt, and I'm a native Floridian.

^^^ In reference to the houses being owned only by "rich people from up north." I'm certainly not rich by any means but I have good friends and family in FL - many born here or have lived here for a long time that make good coin too.

The chatter about no good jobs in FL is such a misconception. You just need to be able to offer more to an employer than a warm body.

I was born in FL, I know jobs in the South don't pay as much as up North or out West. We all know that. But aside from probably Charlotte, Raleigh and Atlanta, I think jobs in Orlando/Tampa/Miami/Jax pay as much as any other big city in the South.

And the cost of living is nowhere near as high as up North.

My hubby landed a job easily, and actually was recruited to come here and makes more then 100k a year.

So the jobs are there. You just have to have the skills/experience/education an employer wants.

The reality is yes there are some jobs paying above 50K but the evidence suggests otherwise for most. As a result the alleged affordability for most remains suspect, especially in cities such as Orlando where the average rent falls around $900 a month. Utilizing the 25% formula for housing cost used by many apartment management companies, that would suggest a needed gross salary around 50K. Since Central Florida for example has a median salary of $29,450 it would seem to most it's not that "affordable" to live there on average.

You will never be able to change the thinking of those who have no skills, no experience and little education that there are excellent jobs in FL and just about everywhere.

Its like the fast food workers who demand $15 an hour when they cant put out an order correctly. How many times have you not gotten what you've ordered at a fast food restaurant? Most of those employees have no concept of what a responsible job requires. The ability to get it right the first time. The ability to know what your're doing, the ability advance ones self.

How could they function in a position where numerous errors result in termination? Very few are willing to start at the bottom and work their way up. Not many understand the concept of advancement but instead expect to be paid top dollars just because they are applying for a job even if they have no idea what the job entails or the intricate details of the job.

These folks don't understand that the employer has a mission to complete and cant take the time to teach and train a person to undertake that mission. The employer needs someone who can come aboard and hit the ground running. The people that have that "hit the ground running" capability are the people who have experience and knowledge in their fields of expertise, they are the ones who get paid well at the beginning and keep their jobs until they become complacent and feel that they still should be paid well and keep their jobs. These folks dont understand that a resume with proven results and achievement is what it takes to secure a well paid position. Not only do they need that but they have to be better than the competition. The right personality is also important as employers are in need of people who can work well with others and with whomever they may need to react with.

Until those concepts are understood and the time and effort is put in people will not be able to secure those well paid jobs that certainly do exist for those with a track record above and beyond
their competition.

Walking out of college with a degree means that they are educated but it does not make them capable.
