Last year my wife and I vacationed in Destin. That is the first "pretty" water I've ever seen. We fell in love and would like to relocate from Oklahoma. I have read volumes online about different areas, but until you see it in person...well, you know. I can retire now and draw my pension (I'm still a young 42) but don't mind working. We talked to some young people who said that Niceville and Milton are nice with decent cost of living. Any suggestions? I've looked on realtor.com and property is cheap from Pensacola to Destin but I hear that insurance is ridiculous and there are no jobs. I'm sure there's a question somewhere in all that ramble, help?

Best advice I can give you is to NEVER buy property until you have rented for a spell and see how you like a place. Really, there is no other way to do this. If property is cheap, there's a reason. Yes, insurance is high. Florida is high risk for hurricanes and flooding.
