I will be moving from Indianapolis to Florida by the end of September/first of October. I just decided to do this on a whim. Tired of Indianapolis and have always wanted to move to Florida, the thing is I have no clue where to move to. I want to live somewhere almost as big as Indianapolis but not quite. Jacksonville is the closest in population to Indianapolis. I have a degree in Hotel Management but have not used it in more than 15 years. I have been working as an Office manager for the last 10 years. I am a single female with no children, so school districts don't matter. I'm hoping to get back into hotel management but with my secretarial background I'm thinking that it won't be hard to find work if I have to fall back on that. My question is what would be the best place to live if someone wants to work in the hospitality industry? Excluding Miami and Orlando!

In terms of healthy job markets in the Hotel Management field I would recommend the Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach areas. After that perhaps Tampa Bay or Jacksonville but I think there's a large dropoff in terms of quantity and quality of options. The West Palm Beach metro would probably best suit your size and lifestyle criteria.

And be sure you learn both proper Spanish and Mexican Spanish. They are similar but can be significantly different with other language influences.

Th Mexican population in Florida is pretty small. Just proper Spanish will be fine.

I know you didn't ask this, but are you planning on finding employment first then moving or the other way around?

You better do some research on salaries (they're low). You also better check with your car insurance and find out what your increase will be. You might get your socks knocked off.

You don't just move anywhere on a "whim" unless you have extensive savings to fall back on.

With hotel management, you might look at Orlando with all its hotels, timeshare operations, etc.

I second this, esp. coming from IN.
