Those cars are very similar to Toronto's Go Train cars.

This thing may or may not be a success in the long run, but most of the naysayers on this thread completely misunderstand the concept and purpose of transit.

From an infrastructure, investment and development standpoint, this thing has already been pretty successful before running the first train.

SunRail live coverage - Orlando Sentinel

Here's a good newstracker for Sunrail's opening day. Many stations and trains were at full capacity.

I'd imagine most of the crowd are out for a novelty ride and wont be the daily commuters that will be needed to make the venture successful ,The system will also need more than 2 coaches if its ever going to be successful. Those Sun rail engines also look familiar, I wonder if Toronto had a sale of some of its rolling stock..http://www.jnmjournal.com/wp-content...2/GO-Train.jpg

Well, not really. Successful transit systems require comprehensive coverage between commerce centers and where people live. That also involves getting to/from stations. Traffic volume in the metro area also has to reach critical mass where taking transit makes sense in terms of time savings. That would make a big "0 for 3" with SunRail thus far.

First major glitch, overcrowding causing delays. I'm sure once the joy riders lose the sense of novelty that will help out the overcrowding. As I speak though I may just become one of those joyriders later today and take the train after work to check it out.

It also helps that the rides are free until May 16th. I hope it works out for the best as a failure here affects the rest of the state.

Yup, I"m sure once they start charging fares we'll get more accurate view of what ridership demand is. Still it's a good problem to have. Proud to be a Central Floridian Today!!!

I took the train to work today before most of the joy riders came out and it was still pretty busy with legit commuters.

Then on my return trip back to Longwood, the over crowding set in and we we're packed in like sardines.

Naysayers be damned, this thing's going to work!!!

I think it will work, Orlando should be proud. When I was growing up they also build a metro in my city and we also had our share of naysayers. I think this will be better than Miami's because now days people are more open to public transportation. Also Miami's metro has a lot of design flaws.
