about 1500 sqft under roof, insured with citizens, $2800/year, no claims, with a 2% hurricane deductible. We are east of US 19, not in a flood zone and several miles inland. Ah, I remember the days of it only costing $700/year......

It may be helpful to others to know what insurance costs in different areas of Florida.

I live in North Port, about 20 miles from the Gulf. I pay State Farm $1200 a year for a 1% deductible on a 2020 sq' home built in 2001. Although not in a flood zone, I chose to purchase flood insurance for another $300 per year.

Default Sarasota county insurance

$1000/yr for a 2000 sq' house in Sarasota county. I saved a couple hundred by getting a 1% deductible on $180k coverage.

Vero Beach - 1860 sq ft east of US 1 in a community on the intercoastal.
2000 - 1100, 2004 - 1500, 2005 - 1800, 2006 - 1900, 2007 - $3800 + 550 for Flood. Oh, Let's not forget the increase in power! Now up to $279 on monthly averaging, up from 200 6 months ago. I am outta here. Just bought property in NC.

I will retire in Jan and if I stay here, I cannot afford to retire and I'll be **** if State Farm will prevent me from retiring after 35 yrs of government service! I will not be house poor! I am a child of the 60's and I still have a little rebellion in me!!! LOL!
