We might be moving to Florida next summer, and we're trying to scope out our options.

We know we want to be in the Stuart to Northern Orlando area. Thing is, this is a huge area. We'd prefer Brevard County or Orlando areas.

About us:

We are technically 2 households (Husband and I, his ex wife and 4 kids). We want to be within 30 minutes of each other.

We need a good area for schools for the kids. Having a good football team is crucial, as our eldest will be starting high school next year and wants to play college ball. It also needs a good special-ed program for our second eldest.

We would prefer suburban area. We'd be open to an area on the more rural side, but we'd be hesitant to a "city-type" area.

We are looking more towards an apartment, or at least a "sure thing" for the kids and their mom, so we can start the ball rolling for DS13's football stuff ASAP. Sometimes try-outs can be in spring, and we want to make sure he tries out at the right school. They also need a 4 bedroom that will allow a dog, who helps second eldest with her special needs. He's not a registered service dog.

I want to make sure the kids and their mom are perfectly safe, and would prefer an area that isn't run-down. I grew up in Florida, so I know sometimes that can happen fairly easily...

I know this is a long list, but I think that's why I'm so stumped...any tips or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated...

You might get better answers if you post in the specific forums for these areas, if you have trouble getting an answer in the general FL forum...

You might check out the area zoned for Apopka HS which is a well-recruited perennial powerhouse in terms of football and is also a Blue Ribbon school in terms of academics. Much of the area tends more suburban rural so think it would suit you well.
