Why does Florida have the Most Subcategories on Here?

Is it one of there or something else?;

Did CD start in Florida? Are there more Floridians who participate on here? Are the sub-categories of Florida SO different that they demand their own boards? Is there a lot of intrastate turmoil in Florida??

??

Sub forums are created when there is a certain level of activity. Florida gets a lot of people posting a lot about different areas of florida, hence why there are so many separate sub forums.

Some people on here have requested for a few more subforums. So far, I've heard subforum request for Daytona Beach/Volusia county and the Florida Keys/Monroe county.

Because Florida has a ton of distinct metro areas. Also tons of people are always asking about traveling or moving to Florida creating a need for distinct subs.

Florida has equaled and likely surpassed N.Y.as the third most populated state. Unlike N.Y., for example, FL has multiple population centers spread out through the state. Most of N.Y.population is in a NYC and a few upstate cities

If there is enough activity for them, they'll get a separate forum for them.

I think Florida's subcategory level is not consistent with the same criteria for creating subcategories applied for the other states like New York State, Texas, California...all which also have demand just the same

Some I am confused about would be why Port Charlotte-Punta Gorda needs its own from Fort Myers

Miami and Fort Lauderdale also can be combined into Broward-Miami-dade (or I take that one back). Fort Lauderdale really isn't Miami anymore

And Jacksonville's should include st Augustine and Flagler beach

Brevard and volusia should also become one

Orlando/Lakeland/Kissimmee/st cloud as one also

How much activity is required? Although I have asked this question before, it does not seem to have a specific answer. Is it related to number of threads, or number of posts? Is there a specific number, like 2,000 threads, or 15,000 posts, that is the threshold? Or is it just based on a feeling among moderators that a certain region is getting really busy? How much activity is deemed "enough" activity?

Incidentally, to the OP, I can see why FL has so many subforums. It has a lot of regular posters (maybe who are retired? so have the time to post daily), and it is also is a major destination both for moving to, and vacationing - across the state, not just in one region as with many other states. For instance, NY is a very populous state, but it does not have hordes of people looking to move to remote regions of the Adirondacks - the larger numbers of people are going to one of the cities to work, or are interested in visiting NYC for tourism. In FL, large numbers of people look to move to nearly any part of the state, both retirees and younger people, and tourism is a major industry in almost every part of the state at the same time.

Short answer to why FL has the most subforums?: because we are the only peninsula state in a warm climate surrounded on 3 sides by beach, with an international tourist mecca in the middle.

So many people use City-data as a place to get information about possible places to move/relocate, and let's face it: a lot of people are relocating here. If people suddenly decided to move to California instead, then I'm sure the postings would gravitate there. Since Florida does have a lot of different regions with unique quirks, you can't really lump everyone into three or four groupings.
