Hi everyone. I've lived in several different areas in FL (including Tampa, West Palm, and Stuart). and currently am in West Palm. I've been actually thinking of relocating to Georgia(for a lot of different reasons) but have also been interested in the panhandle area of FL as well. I want to get away from south FL and stay away from all the major cities and live in a more rural and quiet area. I know of Tallahassee and Pensacola, are the areas near there more rural? what are they like? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you !

We lived in Pace about 6 miles from Pensacola for 10 years. If I was to sum it up in one word it would be "boring" Not much in the way of culture, or good places to eat or shop. Very Southern Baptist and run by the Old Boys network. Could be quite a culture shock for you.

I'd call Pace more urban sprawl hell rather than rural. For small town life, I'd look at Chipley or Apalachicola- cute small towns, Apalach is on the water while Chipley is more inland.

I wouldn't overlook North-Central Florida and towns like Jasper and Madison. Both have decent downtown areas and are somewhat progressive overall in terms of maintaining relevance in the 21st Century. If you need "bigger city" services Valdosta, GA is around 30 minutes away.
