OP, your best bet for getting a job would be any of the large metros in Florida. Being gay won't matter. You might particularly like the St. Pete/Tampa area. There is always a demand for good HVAC techs, so I don't think you will have any problems.

I've lived in Florida for 18 years and in Texas since late December of last year. I've held zero jobs living in Florida and am currently on a second job in Texas. The economy is stuff in Florida, especially compared to out west. Me and my same-sex partner work at the same place, btw. We'll both be living in Miami next year and one of his concerns is not knowing enough Spanish to work in most places (one of my annoyances too) Good luck to you in your job hunt, but Texas is by far better in terms of employment. Being out of college in your field though, should have no problem with being gay and I can't imagine you'd have much problems being gay in Texas either. I feel Texas is more gay tolerant than much of Florida.

Probably not in the traditional four year college environment you're imagining. HVAC is a common two year program at varying community colleges and technical schools however, and due to the demand for varying certifications including the EPA element...in high demand.
