Let's see... Asheville... very high liberal population, very low minority population. In Florida, I don't believe those demographics go together very well.

There are some artsy places, if you have money. Marco Island, for instance. And any of the Keys outside of Key West have that vibe but are much more family-oriented. You need the money to afford housing, and usually can't rely on a local job to cover it, but there are plenty of families here, and lots of things for kids to get involved in like snorkeling and boating, etc. In Florida, all of the more liberal and nice-to-live, creative places, are expensive. But in terms of what you're talking about, Islamorada or Key Largo might fit the feel pretty well. A lot of artists live on both, and it is definitely bohemian.

St Augustine or possibly Fernandina Beach. SA's downtown historic district definitely gives off this vibe, but perhaps might be a bit too touristy. And it's not very large.

FB is even smaller but has a small town artsy feel.

OK, artsy. My daughter is an artist and she claims there aren't very many towns, but here goes. Probably Matlacha/IPine Island would be high on my list of areas to check out. It's down south of Ft Myers. Maybe Gulfport up by St Pete or Dunedin. St Augustine, Sarasota and Anna Maria Island.

I am interested in the same type of feel. I really like Grayton Beach and that area.

How about Mt. Dora, the cool little artsy town on a hill overlooking a lake just north of Orlando? It's a very nice town to just walk around in, with many shops and local eateries. I also remember seeing B&Bs. I had lunch there a few years ago, and left thinking it would be one of my first choices in places to live (if I really had a choice).
