My sister died on 7/9/03. I began to care for her 3 children that same day without thinking how hard it would be. I already had 3 of my own children and was taking care of my elderly disabled father. We moved to Interlachen Florida two years ago to get away from the city and all it's chaos. My father died on May 28, 2007. We have been living in the same home for 2 years, but the owners want to move back in and we are in dire need of housing. I've been looking for housing for 3 months to no avail. My husband works at the Putnam Correctional Institute and I am a stay at home mother. We would love to stay in Interlachen. The kids love it. Someone, please help!

i don't understand the part of not finding a home to rent.i was in florida 2 weeks ago and there we're plenty of houses for rent and for sale.maybe you should try looking around a little more while the kids are at school.i was almost overwhelmed with the amount of houses that we're avalaible.

You can take that number of homes and mark off like 90% once you say you have six kids. Add to that, they need a pretty big place for 8 people. She is also looking in a limited area because of her husbands job. I think a lot of mobile homes there also.

How much can you afford for rent? Give us a price range and perhaps someone in that area can steer you in the right direction.

there should be plenty of 4 bdr homes that's enough until things come around.i don't mean to sound harsh.but when things are bad you have to make the best of it .4bdr will do for now.

I own rentals and what you describe is an undesirable tenant. I don't want to rent to someone who is taking it just till they find something more suitable and will move as soon as they do. I want a tenant where the place fits their needs. I have to spend at least $200 running an ad, plus lost time when it is empty and repairs to get it ready for the next person. You need people who are going to stay for a while.

Your posts seem overly harsh and judgemental of the OP and out of touch with the housing market in Interlachen. Have you ever been there?

According to City Data, there were under 750 four BR homes in the area, 29 of them renter occupied. Less than 4,500 3BR homes, with 333 of them being renter occupied.

It sounds as if the OP has been "making the best of it" since 2003 when she experienced the death of her sister, took in three additional children and cared for her elderly, disabled father all while being a wife and mother to three children of her own, then going through the death of her father. I think the fact that she is even lucid after all that shows that she has made the best of it.

To the OP-

I would try e-mailing some of the area churches or if the local TV stations has a "Help Me Howard" kind of reporter who helps people with tough situations, contact them. You may want to expand your search to Hawthorne or Palatka. I know that more than half the folks who work there commute.

You deserve a lot of credit and it sounds as if you have been handling things better than most could.

That was nice of you, Flburgos.

peachz- I just read this in the Renting forum. Might be worth a chance. Maybe post to Craigslist, too.
