Before I go away from this hell hole does anyone know of a part of Florida where pretty much anything goes? You know, the kind of place where you have freedom to live as you want, no zoning, associations or other communist organizations? Or has all of Florida succumbed to the "New York" mentality? Think of wide open spaces, all different types of homes from the permanent to just a trailer on a lot. Lots of trees and wildlife, yet also cars and equipment sitting around in the weeds. Mud riding, swamp buggies, etc. You can let your grass grow and never have to worry about being punished. Has this gone away from Florida permanently?

If you want to live with weeds, junk cars and plain ol' stuff surrounding your trailer, maybe you should look into the middle of the state. There's tons of open space and cattle to boot! You would have to buy some property where you won't have anybody bothering you with rules of keeping a home clean and neat and having curb appeal. I don't see what's so bad about having a nice tidy home anyway~!

Yes. Look into the following counties: Holmes, Jackson, Calhoun, Gadsen, Liberty, Madison, Swannee, Hamilton, Columbia, Baker, Taylor, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy, Union, Hardee, Highlands, Desoto, Glades, Hendry, Okechobee.

That aught to be enough to get you started.

You should investigate the fringe areas of the Ocala National Forest--maybe southern Putnam County or eastern Marion County....There seems to be all kinds of "housing" there, from hunting trailers, to weekend cabins, to permanent homes. Tons of pine trees, and there's mud boggin', too!
You also might check out Lafayette County--lotsa open, "frontier" spaces there.
Tell us, tallrick, what "hell hole" are you currently residing in?

Default I know that, Southern Osceola County

In Kissimmee, south of 192 its all farmland and grazing land for cattle and swamps as far as the eye can see. Go there for "anything goes" particulary around say Holopaw, Kenansville or Yeehaw Junction.

Theres rural land outside Gainsville and Ocala. Very popular spot for buying acres of land cheap and slapping a mobile home on it.

Right now I live in Key Largo. It was a haven for "conchs" when we built here. I put up witht he mosquitoes, heat and terrible water for the pleasure of CHEAP florida living. My neighbors drove around in rusty cars, worked on their boats, and went fishing. Seasonal residents were friendly and only came in the winter, when Key Largo is truly a "paradise" But now the Cubans have bought and built homes, and rich northeasterners have invaded, turning cheap homes into 500,000 or more. Traffic has become unbearable with constant wrecks and the monthly deaths on US-1. I bought land in Hendry County in 1993, and was going to move there but in recent years the south Florida fools have been paying TEN TIMES as much as I did for the same land. I don't usually have a messy house, but if I try and work on my car someone complains, and the property appraiser's office in Monroe county is dishonest and greedy. Moving to a poor area is no problem, I want to start a new business anyway, and a poorer area might be more business friendly. Besides, I want to install my bowling lanes at home and that takes some space!
