Thing is, there were never many "good-paying" jobs in FL to begin with.

And there still aren't, especially if one considers this is the third most populated state. Random tales of such and such hiring 15, 50 or even 100 are blips on the radar when considering the growth of convenience stores, fast food restaurants and other low paying jobs eclipse that number every few days. Florida is well down the list of states in terms of income (around 33rd) and the trend has been downward versus rising over the past several years (albeit like several other states).

Define "many". Personally, I just worry about my own family and not the macroeconomic situation. Quite a few companies are moving their HQ to Florida from other states, not just call centers. HQ means C-level positions and senior positions in finance, marketing, IT, etc. Not just service jobs.

You could easily argue that NY and CA are far ahead with "good -paying" jobs yet many companies are reducing or eliminating their presence in those highly-taxed states in favor of others like TX, NV, AZ, NC and of course FL.

Which apparently hasn't tipped the numbers if you bother to look, and the reason being FL has a brain drain of it's best and brightest who can't secure desirable jobs despite the influx of any new companies, who in many instances are bringing in most of their better paying positions already filled.

What fields would these "best and brightest" be in? How are the "best and brightest" determined?

Did it ever occur to you that most companies arent looking for the "best and brightest" since they would be a financial drain on a company and your "best and brightest" are always looking for better situations which make them a bad investment.

According to the links provided FL is pretty close to the national average yearly salary.

What? This is a new one to me. Are you suggesting companies are looking for mediocre employees, lol?

A good HR department needs to weigh several factors in a hiring decision and one of those factors is the chance of a hire moving on to greener pastures because, at least in their own minds, they are "best and brightest". A company that invests in an employee wants to ensure they get a good return on that investment.

Natural attrition is part of any business. I've not heard of companies hiring a lesser candidate because they think the better canditate will bail on them in a few years. That doesn't make much sense.
