Although it's located in Lee County, when I lived on Sanibel Island, I noticed a big difference between the cops there and in Fort Myers (for obvious reasons) and that was 20 years ago.

IMHO, most people who get in trouble with the police are doing something suspicious or illegal, but maybe I'm being naive. However, after seeing numerous videos, I do agree there are some rogue cops out there who are bullies and racists, but it's difficult to believe they represent the norm. OTOH, police officers should be held to a much higher standard, since they carry guns and are allowed to make judgment calls that impact life or death decisions.

Part of the problem is that the police have a circle the wagons mentality that causes them to protect the bad cop. To a degree this mind set is caused by people giving the police no slack at all and breaking every law they feel they should be allowed to, like speeding, etc and also being allowed to insult the police because the police should just shut up and take it. Nope.

Lol. Those same people who constantly protest and complain about the Police, they are the first ones to call them should they need them. Move to Brazil-Where the Police shoot first and ask questions later, if any at all. And when the Mom and Dad come asking for their rogue punk kid, the Police tell the parents he's already be cremated and buried.

If it was only a "few" bad officers, then there wouldnt be so many opportunities for the media to shine the light on questionable behavior, would there?

Rule #1: Never talk to the Media, any forms of Media, because the Media makes money off all of us in terms of ratings.

Viewers = Ratings = Money.

And today, or the last 20 years, for some unknown reason the Media has sunk to the level of the Used Car Salesman. It is truly sad. Ted Turner said publicly many times that he thinks CNN today is an embarrassment to what he created many years ago. Ted Koppel and Peter Jennings were our last great News Journalists. America continues to sink on so many levels and the Media is another profession that today is tasteless and vulgar and biased. So sad.

This may be true, but is a totally irrelevant point, people who condone cop misbehavior attack the media, because plain and simply, daily incidents reported, fly in the face of the narrative that blue suits and a badge automatically make you incapable of unethical actions.

And by the way, the news outlets that are now depicting bad cops as if they represent the whole force, are the same outlets that have been depicting young criminals to represent the whole neighborhood they come from, and have been doing so as long as I can remember.

Cops who are the ultimate profilers, whine about being grouped with the bad cops which they themselves shield and protect.
