In your opinion, which area is "better" overall and why? The Orlando metro area vs the Tampa Bay area. Please be specific. Let me know why you hate or love an area. I look forward to your responses. I'm purposely being vague because I want your overall opinions on these two areas. What I will tell you is I currently live in Florida and will be moving to one of theses areas.

There has already been a similar poll recently.

Tampa. Because why would you want to live in the middle of Florida? That would be like living in Colorado's eastern plains.

Tampa isn't exactly near the beach either. One could argue that it takes less time to reach Titusville/Cocoa from Orlando than it does to get to Clearwater from Tampa, considering traffic and alternate roads and all.
On a regular afternoon,
Tampa to Clearwater: 45 minutes
Orlando to Cocoa: 45 minutes.
Tampa and Orlando are very similar. I like Tampa better for a variety of reasons, but Orlando being in "the middle of Florida" is definitely not one of the reasons.

I never hit traffic when going to the beach. Perhaps that is your problem.

Not to mention the fact that we have the bay at our doorstep, which most certainly does *NOT* take 45 minutes. And we have breezes, something that is a foreign concept every time I visit Orlando.

It's 30 miles on city highways to Clearwater from Tampa versus 40 miles on an expressway from Orlando to Cocoa. Regardless of traffic, times will be very similar. On one, you won't go past 50mph, on the other, you won't go under 70mph. Do the math. Tampa is not a beach town, unless you want to go swimming with the ships at the port.

Why do you keep insisting that I go to Clearwater Beach, aka tourist central?

Oh, I see your location. Nevermind.

Exclamation Update

So it's been brought to my attention that this same topic was discussed as recently as a couple months ago, but now in that other thread I now have another question...... Head over to that thread for that discussion.

It's the closest beach to Tampa... Much like Cocoa is to Orlando.
What does my location have anything to do with? I went to USF.

And by the way, I'm no fan of Clearwater. I much prefer Sarasota beaches. If I must stay near St-Pete/Tampa, Medeira Beach is my spot.
