The OP is a mod, so I would think he knows what is inappropriate. Also, the OP lives in Florida...so he might not know if this would actually save people money in other areas where the A/C is not run as much.

This is correct. It was meant for Florida specifically, due to our unique climate where many people run their air conditioner a good chunk of the year, thus good savings are to be had if we stop pumping heat into our homes inadvertently.

The same HVAC savings certainly would not apply to the majority of the other states, particularly the north where they actually NEED heat.

I can't imagine a lamp being used every day with a regular 100 watt bulb would cost more than a dollar a month.

Have 8 of them in the cans above the kitchen and then realize how much heat it is adding to the room and then the HVAC kicking on to cool it down. It makes a huge difference over the year, when some people run their air conditioning 2/3 or so of the year here......particularly mid Florida south.

The more posts I see from Sanchez, the more I think he's simply a troll.

In my opinion, those bulbs "STINK"!~! I've had one to catch fire. I like the old bulbs better and still use them. I bought enough to last me maybe a year or longer when I heard they were going to quit making them.

I normally only have a light (florescent) on in the kitchen and a table lamp with a CFL when I'm watching the tube. I just like it somewhat dark in my house.

I guess it saves $ on less lights but I'd fall down or run into something if I didn't have lights on when I enter.

Built new and switched out a ton of builder grade 75w incandescents for Philips dimmable par 38 bulbs. Heat aside the longevity will make a difference. That, plus adding dimmers. Before I had close to 30 x 75 or around 2,000 watts if I turned them all on. It will also be easier to run the house from a generator if needed too.

That is a good point about minimum power needed, should the house be without power from a hurricane or T.S. and one is running off of a generator.
