That's not much different than anywhere else -- If one is prone to those security precautions in Omaha, one will probably also find them comforting in NYC, Washington DC, Miami or any other large city.

It sounds, however, like you have had a personal experience in Florida that has now persuaded you that Florida is worse or different than anyplace else. For me, your "NEVER" precautions are a little over the top -- and should probably be softened to: "Be cautious and aware of your surroundings" - when ('NEVER list').

those are all good ideas. i'd add not to engage or react in intense situations on the roads (road rage). the amount of ppl getting shot at in FL on roads these days is very frustrating and ridiculous.

and i definitely agree with not opening your door to anyone you do not know. very important. even here in Oviedo we've had instances where ppl knock on the door to see if anyone answers and/or will check the place out once the door is open, possibly to return later. scary.

Florida is bad because more people than not are transient criminals, in places like rural Michigan and Upstate NY you do not have to lock your doors.

^^^Not gonna lie, it does seem like FL attracts more of that element than most places do.

I'm pretty sure Florida is #1 in the United States in terms of CCW's issued per state. More than 1-in-20 FL residents have one, and those are just the law-abiding folks.

If everyone was armed, there would be no crime.

Quite possibly the most ludicrous statement I've ever seen in this forum.

Kyle,

I could not agree with you more. Sounds like someone is a little paranoid.
