Do Floridans consider themselves "southerners", or are their own distinct people? Are they culturally and sociological similar to people from the Carolinas, Tennesee, Deep South?

Very north Florida = more toward the south. The further south you go, the less south you get.

You have to draw a 'V' down the state. Coastal areas of Florida are not southern, while anything inland besides Orlando are southern. I live in Sebring and this town is pretty southern in culture.

I have to agree and disagree here. I lived in the panhandle and the big bend coastal areas for about 10 years and for the most part they were quite Southern. I lived in West Palm Beach for 5 years and it was about the furthest thing from Southern one could get.

Florida isn't Southern. At least, the parts of Florida where most people live (I-4 on south) are not Southern. I have heard those small towns in north Florida are Southern but not many people live there.

Some people say that a few areas of central and south Florida are southern but I don't think so at all. Places like Lakeland, the Heartland, etc. Those places are pretty redneck but they aren't Southern. Redneck is not synonymous with Southern.

A lot needs to be said for Florida becoming its own distinct cultural niche in America. This is very much true and is more so with each generation. People from elsewhere in the country can tell these days when someone is from Florida because they increasingly have their own disposition and there are a lot of ancestries here that are not common elsewhere in the country.

No, unless you live in the panhandle or certain areas of the middle of the state excluding Orlando and the major college towns

I have said this many times that Florida is not a culturally Southern state. To those that disagree please state what makes Florida "Southern"?
