I have had my driver's license here in Florida for years and years and years. I know all about the changes and the papers you need to get them now because of the National identification licenses; but today I had to come home and get my passport or my birth certificate and marriage license and 2 letters from businesses addressed to me.

All I needed to do was remove the A classification because I no longer wear glasses. Yay! My driver's license was still good till my birthday in 2018 but was the old kind. Thought it was a simple fix. Wrong! You have to get the National ID type.

Because it is still good for 2 years, it did not qualify to be a full renewal. I will have to go back in 2018 and pay again. It cost $35 to update my driver's license today. So if you have lasik surgery or have your cataracts removed and no longer have the eye glass restriction on your present license be prepared with the documents. Lesson learned....Thank God for the passport....it would take me a year to find the marriage license to show the reason for name change.

The DMV is crazy now, I should of just renewed online with the hassle I had a few months ago. I just needed to renew my license, nothing changed. I took the proper amount of identification documents when I went, but because my passport had an extra space in my name where it shouldn't have, the DMV put an extra space in my name even when all the other documents I brought didn't have the extra space. When I pointed out the extra space they said well that's what's on your passport (which was wrong) and that's how it has to be on your drivers license. When I asked why they couldn't get rid of the space, my original drivers license didn't have that space and all the other documents I was required to bring, didn't have that space. I was told "We go by your Passport", I thought to myself, well if that is the case then why did I need to bring in all these other documents if you only go my passport?

Long story short, I had to have my passport fixed and then go back to the DMV for a new drivers license and photo (as they don't keep the photos). I swear sometimes we create so many rules and systems that common sense is lost.

Just curious.....had you ever used the passport with the error on it to fly or get back into the country?
