The SWFL area in general, collier, lee, charlotte, sarasota, has a few wealthy spots, but that small percentage of wealthy folks, need people to serve them, those are the ones making $8-$10 an hour, and most work 2- 3 part times jobs to make ends meet, so yes, overall it's a low wage area with high COL, for the people that have to work.

Before I acquired the condition I had a successful career as a pastry chef in such places as the Waldorf Astoria and owned my own cupcake company. We have ONE CHILD and husband got a vasectomy immediately after because one was a reasonable number to have an be able to support.

Sweet if you are disabled and can't work, you should apply for disability benefits, even if your husband makes enough money, with disability you will have access to Medicare (better network of doctors and specialists).

My husband has wonderful insurance. I can see pretty much anyone I want/need and pay minimal co-pays. I was even able to stay at Mayo Clinic for 3 weeks a few years ago for comprehensive treatment. Unfortunately it's just one of those conditions where they can only treat the symptoms and not well at that. It's a chronic condition and I can go through phases of remission then relapse and I never know when it can hit. During remission I have jumped back into culinary or done "mom jobs" that work around my daughters school. I am currently in a relapse that has left me nearly bed ridden for 3 months.

300k for a starter home?? Maybe your talking about a certain area or large city. We just recently were down in SWFL looking at homes with a realtor. All were 100-140k range. Nice, decent areas, Sarasota and Charlotte counties.
