Hi! We are a family of five and are considering moving to Central Florida. We are on a fixed budget of $4700.00 a month. We are looking to buy a house in the 250,000 range. Any opinions on if we could live comfortably?
We don't know if $4700.00 a month is enough. and no, we don't live extravagantly.

The number of homes is huge in your range and needs. Just use Zillow, Realtor.com or Redfin and you will find them. A hint, put in a price a bit above your wishes as negotiations bring the final price down.

Depends... Keep in minds, after taxes, insurance, 401k, that $4,700 drops significantly... More like $3,800...

I earn a comparable income. We are also a family of 5. Our house was less than 200,000, so our mortgage is pretty low. I'm still extremely thankful that my wife works, as, while we technically COULD live on my salary alone, we'd be struggling a tad bit.

You have a lot of options. It really depends on what you are looking for. a more conservative area, or liberal? country setting, urban atmosphere? HOA or none?

you can get a lot more bang for your buck in a town like Umatilla, then lets say Windermere for example. You can live comfortably on $4,700/mo if budgeted right, central Florida is not exactly an expensive area to live in. Much of it really depends on how you handle money, and your definition of "comfortable".

I dont think anyone is in danger of thinking your family of 5 lives extravagantly on $4700 a month lol.

For a family of five you will have to do some belt tightening but it certainly could work.

Stay away from major cities, maybe live in the County areas and you should do fine. Mid Central FL has a lot of areas that should fit your budget and close enough to both sides to make beach trips easy.
