I used to hear construction workers from N. Ft. Myers calling one another crackers. As a Yankee, I never understood this.

I dont think in a pool hall it would the worst of terms to call someone , alot of it is fear of rural small town white males and people thinking all rural areas are like deliverance country

I've seen some of the nicer gated communities with trees but it's mostly treeless. It's ugly there but at least they are not Lehigh Acres.
Well for starters, rather than just selling swampland to northerners, they could have planned it around a town. Instead, they built houses and then figured they needed to jam a town in there somewhere afterwards, with schools, a town hall, police, fire department, grocery stores, .................. I think Lehigh Acres was becoming the next Cape Coral in the 90's and early 00's, but then the bubble popped, too bad.

Miami- Tropical beach city, materialistic, extremely diverse, closest you can get to visiting another country, top notch nightlife, vibrant energy, walkable, expensive, very muggy. Parking is challenging. Probably my favorite city (to visit)

Fort Lauderdale- small town meets city and beaches, seedy areas, within driving distance to the best of southern Florida without dealing with the worst of southern Florida. Peaceful.

Tampa- Best city left in Florida for that old school Florida feel, unless you live in North Florida. Working city, jobs city. Great for the 35+ crowd and college kids. Spread out. A moderate amount of everything Florida has to offer in one general place. Bad traffic. An outdoors city.

Orlando- A town with some big city amenities and entertanment, spread out, massive tourist areas, positive energy, can be snooty (like most Florida cities), melting pot of all types of people, the best of a small town and a city combined. Cool nightlife scene. Most limited on the job front of all the cities mentioned (which is its biggest flaw).

How is Fort Lauderdale peaceful? It's also a party city, but with a different energy than Miami. Less dress-to-impress more cruise a beachside bar in flip-flops and shorts but still loud music and drinking.

Now Fort Lauderdale is actually a pretty large, sprawly city. I'm always amazed that when I come down the 95, it says next 8 exits Fort Lauderdale - but, the beach side area is anything but 'Peaceful.'

St Regis closed down about 20 years ago. The smell is no more, sadly that is what people remember if their only experience was driving through in 1980

I found it peaceful, but I wasn't there during peak season. I also found Delray Beach peaceful.

Yea, I knew that, just had to pick on my hometown of Jax but that stench was something else that will linger in my memory forever, ooh that was bad.
