I am 23 years old and since I was a kid I wanted to move to Florida. I visited Miami for the first time on Oct 2015 and I loved it. I have a Bachelors in Finance and have about 3 years experience working as a bookkeeper/office manager. My fiance just graduated from a Technical school and obtained his EPA Universal license (HVAC). However, he has no experience in the field since he works as a school bus driver before he even started school.

We want to move out of NY badly. We are thinking Florida or Houston Texas. Texas because of the job market, but the downside of it is that there are not enough Dominicans (Carribeans). On the other hand, Florida scares us a little because everyone says there are no job.

We are planning to start a family and New York is not the place for that. I also have RA and my joints become very painful during the Winter.

Is Florida really in bad shape? It seems like more and more New Yorkers are moving there. Where in FL are jobs more accesible and which part of Fl would you recommend?

How diverse is Houston Texas? I visualize Texas as a town in the middle of no where with many Mexicans(nothing bad about that), but I would like my future children to have at least one Dominican friend to whom they can relate some how. Heard from a few people jobs are good and the standard of living is nice, but the culture shock can be rough coming from NY.

I would like to move out of NY before the upcoming Winter of 2016 .

Thank you in advance!
You have a Bachelors in Finance & your fiance just graduated from a Technical school and obtained his EPA Universal license (HVAC).
So you're both employable in Florida for the most part just see if you can get a job first before coming to Florida.

If you enjoy being around other Caribbeans then Florida is the obvious choice compared to Texas whose main Hispanic group is largely Mexicans. You won't find a more Caribbean city in the US than Miami with Orlando coming in second place in Florida.

As for your RA condition Florida has warmer weather in the winter than Houston. If having your future children to have at least one Dominican friend to whom they can relate some how is important to you those odds are greater in Florida than Texas.

Oh and by the way if Florida didn't have "any Jobs" why is Florida still growing and has surpassed the state of New York in Population where you are from ?
Another thing to remember is that the state of Florida has no Personal Income Tax or personal City Income Tax if you are from NYC also.

Best of luck to you & your fiance !

To the OP: you cannot generalize an entire state. New York is not a good place to raise a family? Maybe you are living in one of the wrong areas of NY... the public education system there is excellent in most places. Also, Texas is not "a little town". There are major cities in Texas, as well as suburbs and country... just like NY. There are jobs in FL. If you are bilingual there are more job opportunities in the Miami area and Broward county. Since you are young and have no kids yet, I would move down and check out the area. Of course, it is good to have an income first or a way of managing until you find the job you want.
