I gave your my expert advice and then you come back with attacks on me.

We have done our research and have spent time in the towns we have on our wish list. So there, you are not talking to someone who did not investigate. We have spent 20 years investigating, asking questions, spending time and getting details of towns we like.

If you cannot handle the real answer and do not want specific people to answer your questions then do not ask them.

My advice was for you to NOT move to Florida. You won't like it.

Every time I post something you have a silly comeback and find a way to attack what I have to say.

Reading your post you run around the Floirda forum using nice and kind words to try to convince people NOT to move to Florida. Why do you do this?

If you are only a tourist what gives you the insight on passing out advice on Florida when you do not spend much if any time there?

I read your posting and you use very slick wording to convince people that Florida is bad, even though you do not know much about it. Not everyone just moves to Florida because it is pretty like you keep posting about.

We have Florida bashers and Florida haters here, then we have some who use slick wording and specific questions to try and convince people that Florida is nothing but hot air and sunshine.

Is it very clear that you want to move to Florida and need us to give you reasons to convince your wife to move.

As another poster said, if we have to convince your wife then you already have issues with her not wanting to move to Florida.

I already and clearly explained to you that Florida is NOT for everyone.

Florida is for me and my family because of all it has to offer US.

I just do not see you liking Florida.

I have a couple questions for you:

Afterall you did ask me to help youconvince your wife and I am willing to give it a try.

What does Florida have to offer you that you might like there coach?

How many times have you been to Florida? where did you stay?

How long did you stay for?

How many years have you traveled to Florida to see the changes?

Do you have friends in Florida, family?

Why do you need to convince your wife to move to Florida? What has she said that you need to convince her?

What do you or she like to do? Hobbies?
Do you like nature?
Do you like the ocean?
Do you like historical towns?
Do you like animals?
Do you like to travel?
Do you scuba dive?
Fish?
Go shelling?
Do you like 80 degree temperatures better then 20?
Do you swim?
Do you like walking along the beach with your wife?
Do you like sunsets or sunrises?
Which do you like best? Snow or Sand?

Which picture do you like most?

Which video do you like the most?

It all comes down to what YOU like and what YOU can afford.

We all can tell you the things we like and dislike all day, but in the end, YOU have the make the choice, not us.

Once you answer my questions above I can give you my insight on what I think you should do.
When did you live here full time and for how long?

I am thankful for this (now past) cold winter. We bought what we thought would be our (only) retirement home in Murrells Inlet, SC right before I retired (this past July). My thought was that SC was like Florida, only closer (to NJ and family), cheaper and less crowded. I was more-or-less correct. But SC is not Florida! It gets real cold there in the winter and almost everything turns brown. Not much different than NJ winters. Just a little shorter and much less snow.

We have lived in SW Florida for a month now. I love it and have no complaints or regrets. If it had not been for the dreadful winter in the NE, we would have probably not looked and would not be here.......

Brrrrr. Just looking at those pictures makes me feel cold and achey. I prefer the warm tropical view with the breezy palm trees please.

As for what attracts me to Florida besides 'the pretty', well,
The hubby can transfer down to Tampa with the same income he has up here in Va.
We can get a bigger, better house, with a pool for less then we're paying here.
We already live in an area with a high cost of living, so even with increase in car insurance, etc. down there, we will still be coming out ahead.
The temperature is better for me healthwise as opposed to the cold temps we experience here.
My family enjoys change, we've been settled where we're currently at for 8 years and we're ready to move on.
Living in Florida, especially an area where there are such gorgeous beachs and the proximity to so much entertainment, our friends and family will visit us more often.
Our family is more geared towards warm weather activities than cold weather activities so the increased time for kayaking, canoeing, biking, swimming, camping, shelling, walking, exploring, etc. is very appealing.
Gardening is one of my hobbies and I look forward to tropical plantings, flowering foilage, citrus and other fruit trees to add to my garden.
Oh, and "The Pretty" aint so bad either.

I never asked you personally to convince my wife, I can share the vital information that I garner myself with her

I already and clearly explained to you that Florida is NOT for everyone.

Duh!!, and neither is Utopia for others (I know that this is a fictional place, but so are the tourist visions that you convey about Florida.)

Florida is for me and my family because of all it has to offer US.

I just do not see you liking Florida.

As the ultimate extended Florida tourist, how do you even pretend to know what I/we might or might not like, when you are not even living there yourself?

Afterall you did ask me to help youconvince your wife and I am willing to give it a try.

Please reread my original post. You have misinterpreted the value of your opinion.

What does Florida have to offer you that you might like there coach?

The things that go beyond the superficial. Things like signs of a recovering economy with: the housing stabilizing, an upsurge in the viable employment opportunities, affordable housing, a favorable investment climate, taxation issues, safety beyond the gated walls, investing in our kids.... This list could go on forever. Yet, not a single mention of any of these unresolved issues in any of your posts; the critical issues that will encourage others to want to invest in Florida's rebuilding. In case you haven't noticed, Florida has been dealt a pretty lousy hand in this economic downturn

How many times have you been to Florida? where did you stay?

How long did you stay for?

How many years have you traveled to Florida to see the changes?

Do you have friends in Florida, family?

Who cares? I am a tourist looking to possibly invest in Florida (or elsewhere) in the not too distant future. Like you, I have been a regular tourist for many years. Unlike you, I recognize that there has to be more to making this decision than through the eyes of tourist's many vacation visits.

Once again, I am not going on a vacation, I am looking to invest (not frivolously spending) and have the best quality of life for the next 30+ years realistically possible. Yours are the questions that I would expect more from my travel agent, not someone aware of economic reality

Which picture do you like most?

Which video do you like the most?

What no pictures of the Johnstown floods? You are trying to convince me of something that you cannot face yourself (Please, remove your blinders). You have created a distorted vision of Florida in your mind based upon your vacations, not of a resident living there and, yes, dealing with the real problems in balance with the positive attributes. Maybe it is not me (or the many others like me sensing Florida's financial recovery may not be as close or imminent as we would all like) that we ask for the thoughts of those living there. It appears as if you are making the number one mistake of too many regretful. As your posts suggest, you are viewing Florida as a Disney animated paradise.... unfortunately, Mickey Mouse is not real and sunshine and beaches are a true positive, but alone will not mask the real issues of importance.

Went there, and did that. Most of the positives speak of the weather, and few go beyond. With a few notable exceptions, most of the positive stories appear to come from those who moved to Florida a decade, or so, ago.

It all comes down to what YOU like and what YOU can afford.

We all can tell you the things we like and dislike all day, but in the end, YOU have the make the choice, not us.

Honestly, you cannot answer my questions,as you are an outsider living only through your vacations. We all recognize that Florida has the sunshine and the beaches, and this is not enough....

Have had to deal with hurricanes here where I live in Coastal Virginia, Plus the really bad NorEasters. Hurricanes dont bother me. They give ya enough advance warning that you have time to get out of the way. If someone refuses to get out of the way, well then, that's a special kind of stupid right there. Material things can be replaced, even if it takes a long time to do it, but once your dead, your dead.

I grew up in Tornado Alley in SW Oklahoma. You don't often get much warning with those things. Have been in the middle of several tornados. Thats some real devestation there.

Heck, we've even had tornados here in Virginia!

I've had one house burn to the ground. Lost everything single thing I owned.

Disasters can happen anywhere. At any time.

So be sure to Live while you're Alive. Enjoy the things and places and people that make you happy. If you're not happy and enjoying life, do something about it. You only get one ticket for this ride and before you know it, it's going to be over.

Agreed. We've even had tornadoes touch down here in CT, some doing terrible damage (I know nothing compared midwest or so, but still lots of damage).

And I agree about living while you're alive and enjoying things.

Ahhh the same way I felt 16 years ago when I couldn't wait to get to FL. Well, now I am ready to get out for good.
