Since real estate is truly about location, values differ, but hey you must be the expert here.
You could have just as easily said "I sold a $500k condo in Bradenton and a $350k townhouse in Miami" - it's completely pointless. You are comparing apples and oranges. There are cheap houses and townhouses, and expensive houses and townhouses, in both areas. There are cheaper parts of Broward and Miami, as there are more expensive areas. You are obviously missing the point.

I have lived in super beautiful south Florida for 10 blissful years. As a single person....the best place would be the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood area. Lots and lots of other singles, nice eateries and bars right on the beach, and lots of rental opportunities from low to high price range. And of course better job opportunities than in many other parts of Florida. The weather is sheer heaven from October to April, but it does get very hot and humid from May to September....Heavy rains in the earlier part of Summer, but the rain comes and goes very quickly leaving the skies sunny and clear for most of the time. The cons would be the traffic and trying to buy real estate...not as cheap as many other places in Florida. If you are not single....and have kids....I would not bother with the area.....It is indeed a little too fast for kids and I would not advice it to anyone who wants a peaceful place for a family with kids.....For that head right north....any place north of Jupiter...right up to the Georgia border, you will find lovely places more comfortable and suitable for families with kids.

There's also Tampa-St Pete for those into a more laidback singles vibe along with a lower cost of living and less congestion generally speaking. It tends friendlier as well from my experiences.

I second this - it's also more laid back than a lot of areas. Fairly good job growth from what I have been reading. Some crime depending where in Ft. Myers.
