We moved from the Bay Area, to the Bradenton area. COL is about half for us.

Unless they prefer hot to cold and love the beach.

If you're happy and well-adjusted in Northern California, you'll probably hate living in South Florida, especially if your personal happiness is largely derived from education and people quality, two areas in which South Florida is severely lacking.

Although I don't live in Northern California, I do live in California, and I've lived in South Florida. FWIW, I wouldn't move back to South Florida rent-free and with paid utilities, even despite how much I hate being cold. Talk about a downgrade!

Stay put.

Oh please. I have spent considerable time in norther California. Sonoma coast. Healdsburg, Sonoma, Santa Rosa, etc. One of my best friends is there right now dumping his house so he can get back here to South Florida.

Some would prefer it there, especially if you are super liberal and want to grow pot in your basement. But that doesn't mean everyone prefers it there.

We just sold our home in Weston (Bonaventure) built in 1978, 2500 sq ft under air, 2 car garage, 1/3 acre on a lake. It sold for $505000 - $5k over asking. The home was considerably upgraded with high quality fixtures, bathrooms, etc.

Now to taxes and insurance. Taxes $4300 based on original price of $183000 with usual increases. Insurance $6500 p/y.

So to keep your insurance lower buy a newer home. Taxes on the home we sold should double.

A good site to research homes on is Broward County Broward County Property Appraiser's Network

We moved to Vero Beach.

But Winter would revive them and the beaches are infinitely superior to CA beaches when it comes to actually going in the water, especially in NorCal, brrrrrrrrr
