When I left Fl, I thought I would never go back. I never called it home, but I guess things change, people change. New England will always be home too, but I have taken Florida as my home also, when you get used to it, it grows on you. I moved away, and didn't realize how much I actually liked/miss it. There are things there I dislike(love bugs, superhot days, bad drivers), but then again the weather up here, potholes, cold, cold cold, are worse as I see it now. So I will instead of living up here in New England, I will visit from time to time. Unless I win the lottery and live here in the summer, there in the winter. After the weather has been here for the last few months, I will deal with the heat. Hot is uncomfortable, cold is painful.

So I am going back to my new home. I will have more appreciation for Florida this time.

What a great post. We did the same thing years ago, moved back up north for business. We soon realized how much we took for granted in Florida, warts and all.

Your line says it all, hot is uncomfortable but cold is painful.

I agree whole-heartedly. Growing up in Florida, I just thought it was a JOKE of a state... I mean, it still is... but I couldn't WAIT to leave. I thought I was "done" with it forever... I moved to Atlanta and then... I experienced "winter". And I experienced what it was like to be "cold" from November - March. And I experienced 5 hour long drives to the nearest coast/ocean. And traffic like I've never, EVER seen before in any part of Florida...

Don't get me wrong. Florida has its problems, and many of them are severe. There HAS to be something done about the horrendous state of the public schools, the absurd amount of sex offenders, the outrageous property taxes and insurance... and so forth.

But that's my home. And it's not all bad, especially if you have the means to live in the safe areas, the beautiful areas...

I'm kind of sad that I never experienced the off-the-beaten-path places that Florida has to offer, even though I grew up there. I have to make that right... there are so many places I want to see and visit that are NOT tourist destinations. I did take Florida for granted. I'm the FIRST to admit that. I now realize that MOST people didn't skip days upon days of high school to hang at the beach... etc.

So well said. We're leaving PA in 3 months and we can't wait. I'm not looking forward to roaches (got chills just typing the word), but the cold is painful. My husband and I were very concerned about talking to our children about a possible move (we thought they loved PA), but they both screamed with delight and said "finally, we're going home" (they were both born there). I'm not taking anything for granted this time - I now have a grandson and can't wait to show him all that Florida has to offer.
