I love it!!! I used to think the same thing but after being here I see a whole different world. I love Florida but there are so many low lifes here I just can't get over it. If you have a lot of money and no kids it's great but when you need to work and worry about schools for your kids it's a whole different thing. The housing market in a decent area is very high. If you like living in the getto you can find something cheap. Every winter I used to love to come here but now that I lived here and seen the changes I look forward to moving back to NC when the kids are done with school.
I don't need any feed back I'm just stating my opinion that's it! Don't make a mistake because you hate the winters do your research!

I'd check into Sarasota. It's a bit pricey but you may find a good deal! Chec kthe surrounding areas too , especially North Port. You should be able to find a decent place and it still won't be too far to travel into Sarasota.

Wow, with all of those "downer" posts, I have to throw my 2 cents in. I moved from Philadelphia to Odessa, and my family and I love it. It is a combination of beautiful weather, clean and safe area, enough stores to meet our needs, and beaches close enough to enjoy being in Florida. We go to the beach often, especially when it was still summer and just love the fact that we are not freezing our buns off or spending high amounts of money just to find something to do on cold winter nights. Florida, like anywhere else, is not perfect, but if you do your homework and research your area, line up employment and find a home you can afford, then life will be good. And for all the naysayers who say those things can't be done, I have done just that and I am not alone. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

The cost of living in our new house in SW Fl is definitely lower than that of our home in No Jersey, not to mention the weather is one heck of a lot nicer, too.
