I'm currently in TX and will be finishing a year or two in nursing school here as well. However, Texas will likely not be my home forever. I am also in a serious relationship with a Brit (currently out of the country ) who, if all continues to go well, will move to the US with me.
I have considered VA and PA. But FL seems very nice as well.

A little bit about us...
-I am studying to be a nurse, he is a business analyst. By the time we move I should have my nursing licence but would like to continue education.
-I am into horses and have one, so small acreage (up to 5 is plenty) is nice but we both enjoy easy access to a major city. If affordable acreage is not possible, I am more than happy to just board.
-International airports within reasonable distance.
-Nightlife, music, museums, parks, restaurants, are important to us as well. We are very active on the weekends.
-Cultural diversity is very important.

I've been told to look at Gainesville and the Space Coast. Ocala interested me initially but I've been told it isn't the nicest area.

Would love any advice on potential areas that might be good for us, any words of encouragement or caution about Florida. Thanks in advanced!

Florida isn't exactly a cultural hub nor culturally diverse outside of Miami. As an RN and Business Analyst I think you could find Virginia more to your liking given your other interests. You might consider someplace like Fairfax County VA which is about 20 miles SW of Washington DC in an area of rolling hills with lots of greenspace and a very diverse, generally well-educated population plus a wealth of cultural and recreational opportunities. It is more expensive than other options you might be considering but salaries are considerably higher and sufficient enough for the vast majority living there to live somewhat comfortably. Check out places like Annandale, Clifton and Herndon which are lower density and offer acreage or easy access to boarding facilities.

I'd advise you to visit the areas and thoroughly scratch and sniff everything on your own before making any decisions.

The whole Virginia vs FL thing is a fundamental location issue only you and your spouse can decide on by visiting the areas to see if they meet your needs or not.

Pay rates for nurses in Florida are very low. Laughable actually compare to other places.

That isn't true everywhere. Level 1 trauma center with a union company and you can make great money down here. Work in a hospital with no specialties or a doc in the box type place and well yeah you won't get paid.

False. Orlando and the space coast would be great areas to check out. Orlando has plenty of culture, kyles hater comments notwithstanding.

Nursing pay is reasonable here in the context of col and lower taxes here

If you're into the theme park culture. It's not that cheap to live here either with rent values well out of proportion to average salaries which is pretty well documented. You'll find a few cheerleaders who'll try to paint a really pretty picture, but the reality doesn't mesh for the vast majority they're attempting to convince, especially when compared to much more well-rounded (and more diverse) places like Northern Virginia.

Seems you want the benefits of a metropolitan area with a little acreage. Why not the Acreage in West Palm Beach? Access to 3 international airports, plenty of work opportunities, lots of stuff short drive away. My sister has horse property there with several horses, goats, etc. She does ok but certainly not rich. She moved there simply because it was affordable horse property.

Orlando is very multicultural with a thriving downtown. Fact
