I have lived in Florida all my life and have not seen one firefly. They may be down in Miami but are definatly not in the space coast. Just saying.

Same here, as a kid in Tampa you couldn't go camping without seeing hundreds of them. I haven't seen one here in twenty years.

when I was a kid I lived in Ocoee (30+ years ago). I used to see them all the time during the summers, and lots of them! But I cannot remember the last time I've seen one I've lived in Orlando since then.

I can't remember the last time I saw one in Tampa, or any of the times I've gone camping across the state.

I've only seen them once in Florida and it was in the northern part of the state. I think it's too hot/humid for them to thrive here.

I've never seen any in Orlando or southwest Florida but there are tons in East Tennessee. They even have the synchronized ones up at Elkmont in The Smokys.

When I was kid, they were common. I haven't seen one since I was kid. They exist here in theory, but I've wondered if all the mosquito spraying that has been done has killed most of them off. I grew up in Jupiter.

This is my post from earlier in the thread. Heat and humidity have nothing to do with it. They like undisturbed, unsprayed areas, and I saw more of them during summers that were rainy that filled the ponds and lakes in the areas. In some dry areas I saw little to none. We left in 2007, and they were still around then, so I assume they are still there.

We now live in Sarasota/Manatee and I don't see any, don't think they like the coastal areas. I have heard they abound in rural Myakka (inland) however.
