I don't know of any ferry to Texas. We have a ferry from Key West to Marco Island, Fort Myers, and they just started one to Miami. Oh and of course we have one to the Dry Tortugas. When Cuba eventually opens up they will probably start that one back up.

There's probably some semblance of a "ferry" between Florida and the Bahamas!

Yeah, it's called the "Monkey Business." Gary Hart took a little trip on it with Donna Rice and had to fold his presidential campaign. Whew! I'm really dating myself!

ABSOLUTELY!!!! Just pull your car up to any beach on the gulf and flash your headlights 3 times. They'll come get you!

(Sorry, I couldn't resist. That's what we used to tell the tourists who wanted to go from Ponce Inlet to New Smyrna via the beach.)

Seriously, I know some folks who had their RV loaded on a ship and taken to Vera Cruz Mexico, where they started an epic journey from Vera Cruz to Alaska to New Orleans to Nova Scotia and back to Florida (took them almost two years). I've seen drive-on ships at the Port Of Miami that take vehicles to the Bahamas and various Caribbean islands, but the cars are driven through a raised bow into the hold of the ship -- not like a conventional ferry. They are used for exporting the vehicles, not for commuting or touring.

It's an interesting idea, but probably slower from, say, Tampa to Galveston than simply driving there on I-10. Ferries usually work best when there is no alternative.

It's absurd to me that there is no ferry, boat, cruise, whatever from Naples, Florida to New Orleans. It takes 10 hours to drive, and after looking at a map it looks like it would be faster to travel by boat. Does anyone know how to travel by boat from Naples to New Orleans?

Thank you Bocamom for that interesting view of cruise life. I am particularly
grateful to be made aware of the dangers from "stray golf balls" to say nothing of thrown coconut cocktails. Hey, it's a dangerous world out there.
