Im new to this place but I read these forums alot when googling about city comparisons... im born and raised in bay area,CA but been living in TN for last 10 years (long story ..i know..crazy lol). My husband wants to move to Daytona Fl but we both hate humid weather. We have never visitef florida yet. But he believes living near the ocean will "cool it down" (hes from Santa cruz, ca so he assumes theres more "cool breeze" on the Florida coasts. I am someone who loves all 4 seasons (esp FALL weather). He used to surf along time ago when he grew up in Santa cruz. I love cooler weather. We both are interested in living in colorado (except we dont want to shovel snow).but we know everything in CO compensatez for the snow (nicer non humid weather, great atmosphere, etc). Recently hes been considering moving to FLORIDA instead since its cheaper (like here in TN) but we both hate the memphis area and we do both miss the beach. But colorado is very expensive (almost as much as CA now which is why we arnt sure about colorado). He works as a mechanic in which firestone does not use air conditioning in the back bays which i worry about cause he already hates the hot and humid weather during the TN brutle summers..ive been looking into florida and some things do worry me some..id rather still move to colorado near my sister and he now wants to plan to move to florida but here are my concerns:

SINK HOLES..are they really that common?? If so, what cities? We dont see those in TN but any info would be appreciated.

CRIME: memphis is one of the worst and i know crime is everywhere...but how bad? We dont have any small children, only one teenage daughter.

HUMIDITY: i know its down in FL but is it really cooler a bit when living near the ocean? (Similar to ca)?

SEASONS: Do you get cooler weather during fall and is fall weather beautiful? Is winter holidays odd if not from florida? (I know some ppl dont mind warm weather in christmas but to me i love wearing boots, drinking hot chocolate, cozy sweaters, etc..)

BUGS: I already hate the bugs in the TN summer..so is it really worse?

INSURANCE: Is it true lots of insurance wont cover hurricane or flooding when living near the beach?

Sorry as I know florida has many pros that ive looked into but some things to still consider...we are both in our mid 30s. He also favors cooler weather (at least during fall and winter and he hates humidity also but he believes the beach will make it cooler and im not so sure lol).

Florida is humid, near the ocean is a bit cooler but that is relative but still VERY humid. Instead of being 97 degrees it will be 91. Hating humidity and moving to Florida will just set you and your husband up for misery. Sinkholes are not everywhere, certain areas are more prone to them. Its like moving to Washington State and worry about volcanos, yeah Mt Rainier will erupt someday, but channces are it will not in your lifetime

Have you considered moving to eastern Tennessee in the mountains? Its not Colorado but some elevation, some seasons and cooler than most of the South. It does snow but it wont be on the ground all winter

You two clearly will not enjoy living in Florida! Everything you wrote is the opposite of what you will get. Yes, there are breezes that come off the ocean but it's still hot! Move to Colorado and enjoy.

I agree and would also consider western NC and even northeastern Georgia if you don't need close proximity to a larger city.

Seattle might be a great option.....very little snow and cool temps plus you get 3 seasons (fall and winter are really the same up there).

I rather live in Gary Indiana then live in current day Riverview Florida. just saying! It was a miserable existence there. There is still some good towns in Florida left but most are ruined by poor urban planning, overpopulation and developers.

We love the beach but yes...California is not the same as Florida. I think my husband is just wanting to settle for anything "cheaper than ca" for a beach life but he is not sure what he might get himself into. Hes very picky with money and although colorado is more pricey, it might be better for us.

We havnt actually but that is not a bad idea considering Nashville is a much cleaner and better enviourment than memphis area. To be honest we were wanting to move out west again and florida (although is the south)- is alot more open minded and a melting pot like CA and colorado. So we know Florida is another great melting pot. Just the weather that worries me lol. Thank you for replying
