We are moving to Miami for my husbands work and need some help.

He will be working in Brickell and will be travelling around the US a lot. I will be staying at home to look after 2 children 9 & 8yrs. We currently live one block from the beach and are quite active with walks, cycling and swimming. Being from Melbourne, Australia, we love good food and coffee - speak no Spanish but love new cultures.

We will be renting and would prefer anything but a condo but need to feel safe with my husband working. Schools can either be local or private but must be a good balance of sports and academic focus. We've been told $4000 should get us a good place but it's looking more like $6000?

So, currently looking at Key Biscayne, Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Miami Beach. Need to look at schools, safety and husbands commute, public transport options. We will only have 1 car.

Look forward to your feedback

Since you mention transit and the beach, I would go with Miami Beach, specifically Mid-Beach. You'll have all the necessities within walking distance, the bus service is decent, and of course you'll be at the beach.

The other option would be something along South Miami Ave in Brickell. You can probably find a house with a pool, your husband could walk to work if needed, plus there's access to Metrorail and Mover.
