Was looking around the area and realized there isn't really any software development jobs in Daytona Beach. Would it be reasonable to commute to Orlando everyday from there? Or is there any other cities along the east coast with alot of tech jobs?

Commute from Daytona to Northern Orlando suburban office parks is around 45 minutes to an hour. For some that is OK to live on the beach. For others that would be unacceptable. If you find something in Orlando and living on the beach is a must... also consider Brevard County, Cocoa Beach and Melbourne depending on where you are working in Orlando. If you work in Lake Mary, Daytona is better... if you work around Lake Nona, Brevard is better.

Daytona is just not that big.

Look into Jacksonville area as well, it is a larger city. There are some tech jobs; I dont work in the field but from what I read Jacksonville has a growing tech sector. Jacksonville metro is right on the coast, the Jax Beaches are commuter suburbs. You can live on the beach and be at work in 20 minutes.

Palm Beach County to Miami has more jobs than most of the east coast of Florida. Not sure about software developer jobs

Depends on what type 'software development jobs' you are seeking. There is a concentration of defense-related software development careers in Brevard county. Jacksonville seems more focused on healthcare and financial industries. Orange/Orlando will likely have more commercial software development.

If you're deadset on the Atlantic coast your best bet would be the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach corridor for variety of options along with quantity.

Cal,

There are very few developer jobs in Daytona Beach, but they do exist. There are also a few employers in DeLand and the Orlando area has a bunch of developer jobs. Lake Mary (eastern Orlando area near US 4) might be within commuting distance, but anything farther than Maitland (central Orlando) or Oviedo (eastern Orlando south of 4) would be too far given Orlando traffic. Brevard county is full of defense contractors.

The biggest impediment to working in central Florida area is developer wages are low compared to other regions. Also you need to match your skill set to employers needs. Many of the employers use older technologies particularly defense contractors. So being proficient in typescript or swift may have a smaller market than C++.

Commuting from Daytona to Orlando would be insane. The traffic is such that it would take you 2 hours each way.
Agree with previous poster - Jax is good for healthcare, insurance, and financial software. Orlando, more regular commercial stuff, although a fun job might be at Disney or Universal for IT work. You probably get free tickets. Not a whole lot of IT work in Daytona, I don't think. A big hospital and university and that's about it.
