Greetings Peeps...Im retiring (well semi...lol) and moving to Sarasota in June and was hoping to get some Health insurance reccomendations....from what I understand these are my choices (currently a NYC civil servant) 1) Uetna US Healthcare 2) Empire blue cross blue shield 3) GHI 4) HIP 5) Health Net 6) Vytra health Plans. Im hoping at least a few of these plans are accepted in florida, sarasota in particular... anyone with info/help/reccomendations would be greatly appreciated...once I pick a plan im stuck with it for two yrs...

If your primary address is going to be here in Florida, BC BS will expect you to register with the local BC BS and frankly I wouldn't carry Florida BC BS, they have alot of restrictions and a LONG reputation for not paying claims, in fact there are law suits against them by providers for this very reason.

You have to understand that BC BS of another state isn't the same company, the restrictions are different. They do accept your BC BS from another state however they are different.

I would give them a pass here in Florida.

The insurance that I have had that I liked best was United insurance. The only drawback with them is when you call for benefits you get someone in India and I don't agree with my personal health information being shared with people in another country who are not bound by America's HIPPA restrictions. BUT that is a reality in alot of companies today.

great great advice, many people retirees transfer or relocate to Florida and think their insurance is going to be top notch like the heath insuranc ethey have from the home state. this is great inforamation, as many people need good healthcare and quite frankly Florida does not have a good reputation when it comes to this and ive heard iot by many people. Keep your insurance in your home stTE IF IT IS GOOD

You can't keep it in your home state unless you maintain an address there. If you have children who live there then use that as your address. Your problem is going to come if you have an HMO of course.

You really don't want a BC BS policy from the Florida company. The absolutely LAST thing you want is a Primary Care Physician driven HMO, that means if you need to see a specialist, you have to have their permission and written referral first. I can't tell you the number of problems that causes. BC BS uses these types of policies here in Florida all the time and they are a HUGE problem.
