Part of my "dream" to relocate to a safe, friendly town, within walking distance to the beach and a FISHING PIER. As I recall in past Florida trips, there were some visits to coastal beaches with Fishing Piers, but it's been many years ago.

Please tell me if any of those piers still exist...... WHERE?

Englewood (close to Tom Adams fishing pier), Port Charlotte (close to the Port Charlotte beach complex or Charlotte harbor), Venice, and many of the islands fit this criteria. The village of Osprey, just south of Sarasota has a very cool little village with with a fishing pier at the end of the road.

That's all I can think of right now.

Is everyone over 18 required to have a fishing license in Florida?

If you're a Florida resident and fish in the salt water from land or a structure attached to land(pier, jetty and such), then you don't need any kind of license. You'll still need to follow size and creel limits declared in FL fishing regualtions though.

You will need to buy a saltwater license if you're fishing salt water from a boat.

You'll need a freshwater license to fish in the fresh water, regardless whether it's from shore or boat. The only exception is fishing for mullet in the fresh water - you don't need any license for that.

Good luck, good fishing

If you live in the vicinity of Venice airport, Venice fishing pier can be considered within walking(well, definitely within biking) distance. Maybe not the very top place in the area to actually catch fish, but it's a nice, fairly quiet, safe and pleasant place nontheless

Also just north of downtown Venice is South Jetty. Along with the North Jetty(on the other side of the channel, and accessable from Nokomis beach) it's one of the more productive spots in the area. The atmosphere there is just as nice, if not better, as on the Venice pier.
