Totally different country with totally different dynamics, history and set of issues. I'm talking about the United States. We still have a long, long way to go for achieving racial justice in this nation, because America is a backwards, racist nation.

So was your goal to start a thread about NE FL growth, or get into an argument about race and the current president??

As far as the rednecks in NE FL not allowing growth or being progressive - if that were truly the case, then not a single new house or shopping center or road would be built, which is obviously far from the case. It is growing and will continue to grow. Not really sure how being a redneck means anti-growth, not a very logical argument.

Also maybe some people actually enjoy a more laid back lifestyle, and not being surrounded by millions of people and having to deal with high crime, rude people, traffic, and dangerous drivers like SE FL.

Nope. I'm staying. And in 2018 and 2020, I'm VOTING! Immigrants is what makes America great.

The sad fact is that it's much easier to be a white undocumented immigrant than a non-white undocumented immigrant, because America overall is a racist nation with millions of people that are energized by hatred and blaming the country's problems on immigrants, legal or not.

Are you a native American?' If not,, then count yourself in that group.

The USA is a land of immigrants

So much for the melting pot... an awful lot of hateful comments here from the uneducated.

Until Florida gets hit by a catastrophic hurricane (of which we are due).. the insane population growth is going to continue throughout the state.
If the rednecks, legals, and illegals could learn to work together and form communities - instead of calling each other "poopy heads" like a bunch of toddlers.. things could work out ok.

In case you're not aware - there are terrorist groups trying to wipe this country off the map.
If we unite we all win - Grow up.

Well said but we have leadership now that thrives on the "poopy head"/toddler style of governing and a more vocal wave of said supporters who feel their racism and ignorance are validated to express loud and proud. While a nice thought, sadly compromise/cooperation have been proven to be not an option among that group and a complete waste of time attempting if the past 8 and half years are any indication.

It all starts from the top.

We have an overgrown womanizing toddler in the oval office who panders to racists and nationalists

Now that they are in their late 50's they are thinking about retirement and hoping to be snowbirds between FL and CT, maybe in a few years from now or something. The few properties that they own are along A1A in Ormond Beach and Flagler Beach. Their main appeal to the area is that Volusia County and Flagler County, in general, is laid back, easy going, quiet and is right on the coast. Traffic is very easy going, people are friendly, etc. They also say it's better protected against hurricanes in that area. They absolutely love it.

BUT....will it stay that way in say 10 or 20 years from now? One of their neighbors down there just moved up to Ormond Beach from Fort Lauderdale. The neighbors said that back in the 70's or 80's, SE FL was beautiful, peaceful, quiet, affordable and a true paradise. So they feel refreshed having just moved to Ormond Beach now. But they warned my parents that at the rate things are going, that in 20 years from now, this northeast coastal section of Florida could become just like Southeast Florida -- busy, congested, stressful, expensive, etc.

Do you think that this will happen? Is it only a matter of time? I mean, nearly 1,000 people are moving to FL per DAY. It's insane!
IMO as more and more people from the northeast, midwest and other places set their sights on Florida as a permanent destination, any location seen as desirable will become more and more congested, with more and more development. So yes, I'd say it's highly likely that the area you mention, if its seen as desirable by visitors, wannabee transplants, local politicians and the real estate industry with dollar signs in their eyes will crowd that area with new development, and market it to the millions wanting to move to the Sunshine State to claim their allotted 12 inches of space in a "gated community".We've seen it happen to SW Florida, and it continues to this day.

And just so you know, the area between Daytona Beach and Jacksonville has no special protection, either geological or location, from hurricanes. The fact that it's been quite a while since the area was hit directly by a hurricane is simply the luck of the draw, nothing more. It would be extremely naive to assume that if one moves to the area, one will never be directly affected by a hurricane.

No, it won't be unless for some random reason...immigration from south American and the Caribbean goes through the roof in NE Florida.

It's more likely Tampa/Orlando will become like SE FL....not NE FL.
