Will be living near the beach early next year in FL and have been evaluating it against moving back to SoCal, which is "home" to me and FL won.
I get it. Everyone says that before they move here. But after year upon year of putting up with 4+ months of brutal, around the clock humidity and staggering dewpoints with no break whatsoever you may change your mind.

I noticed in another post that you're moving... where/when do you move?

If I were single? Probably Colorado or Washington state. Since I'm married w/ a kid, though, the desire to be closer to family has set in along with the desire to leave FL. We're eventually heading back up to Virginia.

Yep, and no one to interrupt the conversation and in one of the most beautiful and enjoyable parts of creation ... the beach.

I always looked like a lobster after a beach day in Indiana(the lake beach) but I have not burned in Florida in so long, I don't even know how they hurt any more. I am a blue eyed blonde with super light skin so not a tanner. Husband is part Cherokee so always looks like he is darkly tanned. I do get a few freckles now, but no one thinks I even spend time outside unless I tell them since very view people have lighter skin than mine-even when I know I have a good tan for me. :-) We go to the beach and walk mostly before 10AM or after 6PM during the summer. Favorite time is rainy days because of possibility of seeing more fins. If we have family and do a beach day we go where we can have a covered boardwalk with picnic table, bring all the beach umbrellas and the canopy so everyone can be out of the sun at times . Sometimes we are there from morning till dark-especially if the men play golf across the street for a while. Secret is to put the suntan lotion on at home. Reapply as needed during the day. Wear a hat and sunglasses so you don't get sunburned eyes. Cover up if you do start to burn.

That is East TN and I adjusted quite well. I am learning to ;like humidity more with each visit and I grew up at the beach in SoCal with very low humidity/dew point. I am in FL now and the humidity actually made the air seems soft, where in SoCal it was dry and hard on the skin and my throat.

You and I may be related. I am very "white" and my wife is part Hawaiian and turns a nice brown when she stops for a minute in the Sun. Late afternoon is my favorite time. In SoCal it was usually foggy or cool in the morning. For all day events, I use lotion and a large umbrella.

Florida has the second highest rate of melanoma cases in the nation. Be careful and remember .... the increase in skin pigment, called melanin, which causes the tan color change in your skin is a sign of damage.

Ahh well, at my age having a tan impresses no one, so a shirt and lotion is fine by me.

FL doesn't even make it into the top 10 states for melanoma.
