I grew up playing in the snow. Miss the vibrancy of the Northeastern states. Yes, there is crime everywhere. I guess you just have to pick your poison when it comes to living accommodations.

Got news for you hun, there's wildlife in Syracuse. I lived about 50 miles north of NYC and had skunks, deer, bears, raccoons, etc. In the 11 years I lived in the Hudson Valley, there were more hurricanes that hit NYC then they did Florida. As soon as you made your "culturally bankrupt" comment I know where you're going. Go to Syracuse and have fun sleeping with one eye open since the city is a cesspool. Good riddance and it can't be soon enough for people like yourself to leave FLorida.

Curious what you're expecting "culturally" to get from Syracuse that FL doesn't have. I have relatives who live about 45 mins from Syracuse in Upstate NY and from what I hear there's nothing special culturally there -

Could you give us some examples OP of what you're getting there that you can't get here?

Thats what I'm wondering. I've lived in Syracuse and still have family there...I don't get the attraction. Everyone I know there wants out.

The only thing I can think of is the Apple Harvests/Fairs in the fall, but thats not in Syracuse and you could always visit during this time rather than moving.

I remember a few irish/german and etc festivals that were held somewhere around town when I was younger, but I just did a quick check and it appears none are on the schedule for the next year, do they still do them and why move for this when you can find the same thing here?

FL is multicultural. Cuban, Greek cultures are represented here in the TB area. We have world class sports, music, arts. The area has Civil War battlefield reenactments, Renaissance Festivals. Our city holds national conventions, multiple Super Bowls, college national championships regularly. Sure, if you decide to live in BFE, FL, you're going to have less opportunity unless you drive your car to events in the state.....

Not trolling to get house sold (notice no address listed). It will sell, and then I can move out of Florida.

Syracuse is in New York state, which means access to NYC events.

Thank you for your advice concerning Syracuse. Any recommendations for other New York state communities?

I relocated to Florida from the Northeast. Do not think Florida doesn't have it's share of problems and bad crime.
