Florida is still a low wage state a stigma it's having a hard time losing. Maybe some can cut the mustard in parts of FL at lower wages but not in South Florida reason why we left, just wasn't worth it anymore, monthly expenses were just too high based on the salaries being offered, little alone growth opportunities to advance pay were non-existant in our line of work.

Cost of living in the Miami MSA is too damn high in relation to the high cost of living.

We looked at Jax and Melbourne since some work existed there but not much, sparse with little to fall back on. Our car insurance at the time would have been less as would have rent, till we bought which was also less than South Florida. Any bump in income in South Florida is modest and is eaten up by rising insurance premiums or other expenses.

We lived in S Florida and agree with you...however we bought a beautiful home outside of tampa for a fraction of what we would have had in S Florida..We are lucky my husband has his NY Salary but I will tell you the cost of living we found is def cheaper in Tampa than in S Florida...which is why we decided not to go back to S Florida and we have long time friends in tampa...
