Hi all, relocating Feb.09, retired P.O. I hear great things about Englewood. Would anyone help me with info for the Englewood area ? Only Englewood please. I have been told South Golf Cove and Golf Cove are nice as well as Cape Hayes. I have been looking at real estate for 3 months and finding a place is not the issue, its location location location. Any thoughts, comments opinions or feedback would be a help ! Thank you

I live in Englewood, in a subdivision called Rotonda West (do a search for more info). Englewood is a city located in two counties, Charlotte & Sarasota. It is a nice beach town on the SW coast and has many residential areas, a growing multi-family condo area along Placida Road and is just now seeing some commercial growth (we have a new Home Depot and they join SuperWalmart, Office Depot, Bealls and more). South Gulf Cove is a deed restricted area of Port Charlotte very close to Englewood and so is Gulf Cove (both are Port Charlotte addresses). Cape Haze / Placida is experiencing rapid growth in condominiums and is surrounded by residential homes including waterfront, deep water dockage homes--great for boaters. Depending on what you want to spend and the type of property you are looking for, you should not have any problems finding the perfect LOCATION that is right for you. Condo, townhome, mobile home or single family? 55 and over? etc. Do you need to use public transportation? Charlotte does not have buses, Sarasota County does, but the Englewood routes are few...

If you have more specific questions, please ask... In the meantime, state your "wish list" for a property...

If you are thinking Gulf Access canal, then you will have a tough time unless you don't mind a couple of bridges or an older 1960's or so home (with or without the pool). If you are just wanting a fresh water canal or a lake with no gulf access, that is possible, probably a new house too. Plenty of golf courses around here, not sure of the hiring situation though. If you want to be on a golf course with 3 BR and a pool, definately doable... What is your priority? Boating, fixer upper home on gulf access or newer home on non-gulf access canal or lakefront or golf course! Then you can focus on neighborhoods...

There are seven homes in all of Englewood, Rotonda, Gulf Cove and surrounding area that are 3/2/2, with a pool and 2000 or newer.

I think Peaches is definitely helping you to narrow down your search though.

Hi Washer
My DH and I just moved to Englewood (boxes surround me and I'm ignoring them) after looking for just the right house.
We found a great realtor who really worked to find exactly what we wanted unlike many we talked to who didn't find it.
We're on a canal 3/2/2 but no not for under $200k :-)
There are a few canal homes in the 300k range but those under 200k will be in need of upgrading.
South Gulf Cove will have good prices. We chose Englewood because we wanted to be on the gulf and not the river/harbor. Look at a map to get a idea of the difference in location.
Email me if you want our realtors name.

Denise

Default HOUSING IN Englewood?

Does anyone know if there are any CO-OP parks in Englewood that allow families? Or even that allow three people to a home? We would like to retire there but have a son who has some disabilities that might make it difficult for him to live independently. Right now he is still at home (under 18) but we don't want to commit to something that excludes him in case he is not able to. We want a resident owned community in Englewood. If you hear of one please post the name. thanks!

Default difference between south gulf cove and gulf cove??

I live in Montana, and after a 20 below cold snap am thinking florida sounds awful good. Reading all your posts has been a wonderful education and I thank you all for posting them.

I see mention of an area called south gulf cove and and an area called gulf cove. Are they the same? If not which would be the better area for a modest retirement home?

Thanks, and if I can answer anything about Montana just ask.

South Gulf Cove and Gulf Cove are two different areas but they are very close to each other. You could probably pick up a more modest priced home in Gulf Cove. Many of the homes in South Gulf Cove have gulf access, which boosts the price up. You might be able to find something in South Gulf Cove though. It really depends on what deals there are out there at the moment. We've been seeing some pretty low prices on some of the foreclosures lately.

thanks so much for your response. I looked up that area on google earth and like the part that is triangular shaped with the river on the east side and the forest on the west side. I assume that is the gulf cove part.

any caveats about living in that area?
