It's been absolutely beautiful this week in Sarasota...I don't know what you're all complaining about?

I'm not complaining.....
Today is the first day of spring, and I still need to shovel my walk.....but I live here in NY for now, so I'll not complain about it. I've made my plan and will stick to it.

Many things cause "the blues"...not just the weather. Tallrick has stated that there are many reasons here...NOT just the weather. Perhaps more empathy is in order here..........

Yeah, right now I'd LOVE to be in the 90's, instead of NY......but how is me saying "It's worse here" help?? Tallrick is depressed, that is a fact. It may be caused by many reasons. All he was asking was that if others were in the same boat......The fact is, that everyone here is in that boat sometimes for a myriad of reasons......

Perhaps it would be more helpful to all to post on how one overcomes it....

One of the best ways to overcome depression, without meds, is exercise. It gets the endorphins moving! Your favorite music through some headphones and getting either outside or over to a gym can work miracles! That would be my suggestion....( still feeling it from 6 a.m. at the gym this morning!)

You live in paradise.
You just don't know how good you have it!
Homesteaded exemption in Key Largo!
Well built house. Concrete / steel beams/pilings/ stilts raised house: no fear of storm surge. And a solid concrete roof!
Own business (again on building of your design) which Team Metro have yet to uncover!
People would kill to have the lifestyle you have.
Forget aboutit! [Soprano accent]

My girlfriend can't take the heat...though she says it was much worse for her in Arizona. We're totally the opposite on that. I LOVE the heat, and don't like the cold...anything below 70 degrees is COLD to me.

100% agree, fanlady! And you are right in your other post as well - it's been GORGEOUS this week, as it is today, also, I can't believe some of the complaints here!

Also, on the exercise - if you go out on a hot day and start sweating, the more you sweat (as you exercise) the better you will feel, as long as you drink plenty of water to rehydrate. Exercising gets one acclimated to the heat.

I'll take this beautiful sunny weather any day of the week even if it gets hot and humid, because I can always hear my birds and see wildlife, go in my garden, walk around the lakefront parks here etc. This is paradise, to me.

Good point. I guess depression is a hard one to talk about. Not only because it's so varied in causes but also because it feels so awful. Like a big black hole that sucks you down into some kind of void/nothingness... yet it seems like it pervades every cell in your body, saturating you with feelings of dread, hopelessness, sadness, despair. Antonyms would be inspiration, zest, peace, serenity, motivation... Inspiration (it deserves a second mention).

Ok that may have been a bit dramatic, but it can be awful.

For me, seasons can play a part (so then it's temporary). Not only the heat and humidity (which also for me equals higher electric bills that crunch my already crunched finances), but also when I lived up north, 7 months of cold weather wasn't as bad as the fact that everything was gray, from the cloudy sky to the pavements, dead trees, dead grass... I used to wake up just to look out the window to see if the sun was going to shine. (Illinois)

But other depressions... Sometimes I feel like I need a deeper meaning to my life. (Life can't be just about making the buck the pay the bills).

Other times I start off with a sense of lonliness that leads to depression. But not the lonliness of being PHYSICALLY alone (I have people around and I'm in a relationship with a good man), but a lonliness as if I'm the only one like me. (I know that's supposed to be a good thing but...). There's a part of me that no one "gets", a place that, when opened up to people, goes unrecognized.

When it seems like there is no one that can relate to who I am, there's a huge feeling of alienation. I feel like a fish out of water. Or that I'm invisible.

So, for me, some minor temporary depressions just need for me to divert attention, go ride my bike, read a book, redecorate my front room. But other deeper depressions are a sign that I'm not getting my needs met and I need to make some kind of change in my life.

Well wishes are with you Tallrick.

It's not the fact that it's hot and sunny! It's that it's ALWAYS over 90 degrees. Plus the humidity which makes it feel even hotter. Then you also have to deal w/the bugs. It's also depressing to see green all the time.

I'm soooo envying you right now. (As I'm writing this, I'm hearing sirens from 3 blocks away.)

Nature is great. Someday I'm going to live so deep in the booneys, that when I give directions to my house it'll go like this... "When you see the third big rock on the left side of the stream, take the path that veers to the right, then turn right by the oak tree with the broken limb...."

Default salmon diet idea

I tried Dr. Perricone's salmon diet (it's on his website) once and it really was a great mood booster---in fact, it was wonderful to feel so good without even trying.

Just an idea---if desperate, it might be worth a shot.
