We're planning our next extended family vacation and are considering FL. We'll have several kids so there needs to be activities for them as well as a nearby beach. Key West might be good...what about Destin? Any other suggestions welcome.

You didn't mention St. Pete/Tampa Bay but you might want to consider someplace like The Tradewinds Resort right on one of best beaches around. Kids programs, public transportation to downtown St Pete, a Publix grocery store down the street, super easy access to 275 and Tampa, and more things to do than you could ever imagine for all ages. Of course, the options for hotels, motels, etc are endless.

Look at Clearwater / Tampa/St Pete. You have the Clearwater beaches, Busch Gardens, other amenities. Then you are a quick drive to Orlando and the amusement parks there.

I wouldn't take kids to Key West or Destin.Both are party towns.
I would agree with the other suggestions here about the St Pete Beach area.
