"Republicans are actually the ones focused on mental illness" you mean like wanting to gutt existing programs and the ACA and medicade to the ones who need it most. Even with that some day there will come a time when there will be restrictions and or a ban on assault weapons. As for the existing ones out there hopefully restrictions on the sale or transfer of them. The only question now is where is the next one is going to happen and how many will be buried. Is it November yet?

Connecticut is one of the most uniformly liberal states in the country, so it was easy to get things passed there. Florida, not so much...

The topic is mental illness and gun control. Not ACA, not medicade.

And "assault weapons", you are preoccupied with that. What is an "assault weapon" exactly? Once again in my opinion you are not focusing on the root cause.

Was the internet available when the 1st Amendment was crafted? Obviously not. Does that meant he government should be able to censor it? Obviously not. It's the concept, not the technology.

The framers of the constitution wanted individuals to be able to possess the necessary arms that they could organize themselves and challenge a national government run amok. So not only should possession the neutered semi-automatic versions of infantry rifles be protected, but so should the possession of pretty much any weapon the US Government possesses.

Speaking of the NRA can someone explain why is fine to allow open carry and guns in a IHOP or a Chucky Cheese but if you attend the upcoming CPAC convention or any NRA convention there are metal detectors and signs saying No Guns Allowed. How can those people feel safe?

Not defending NRA, I am not a member. But I understand the CPAC had presidential candidates attending, it might also been subject to convention center's own rules and regulations, if it was a public facility it might have been subject to local or state regulations. Not much can be done about that.
It also has nothing directly related to the solution of the topic at hand. Why are you always taking your comments in this thread into different directions? Start a new thread.

No guns allowed at NRA convention - by the way - FAKE NEWS

Kids should be seen and not heard. There's enough noise about usesless knee jerk reactions.
