Rabbits are as mammal as they come. They don’t lay eggs.

Hopefully your neighbor didn’t disturb those eggs. Let them hatch and see what they are.

There are several egg-layers that don’t make structured nests.

If there is any kind of chance they are pythons, I certainly wouldn’t wait for them to hatch! Then it’s way too late.

Don’t mean to sound like a know-it-all. I’m not a biologist but I am a part time wildlife/conservation photographer so I’ve seen a few things out there.

Among others, our black and turkey vultures plop ‘em right on the ground!

Gopher turtles. They're usually under the sand though. They are round about the size of a ping pong ball. And endangered species. You'll get in trouble disturbing them if that's what they are.
