Oh yes, as @Restrain stated - be sure you plan to RENT before you buy. Spend time in the area to get to know it. And check into rent prices - they are high in FL. You need a lot of cash on hand to move here without a job.

A computer can only allow you so much research. Everything from crime stats ,demographics , COL, drive times, and so many other variables. From what was shared with me, get out to Florida for a few weeks out of the year, not to vacation, but to try and get a feel for a particular region.

Being close to the beach is not as important as good access to work, supermarket, daily needs.

Dunedin looks like a great area, depending on what part of town. As well as many other places around Tampa. If the ride to the beach is around half hour , it's not that bad.

Renting is a great idea. Give yourself at least a year to find that special home and location , you never know what will feel just right until you spend time there.

I would suggest St. Augustine/Flagler Beach, quirky, historical, farmers markets, artsy, beach, etc, etc., and will be a lot more affordable than southern Fla. Jacksonville is in close proximity and you're about an hour from Orlando. Good Luck.
