As the title states, I'm looking to move away from South FL. Lived down here most of my life but its time for a change. I would like to move to Northern FL or Southern/central GA. I am in my early 30's and single, so somewhere to eventually (hopefully soon) start a family. I am looking to rent (apartment or small house) with the hopes of buying something with a few acres in a few years. I am an outdoorsy type person if that helps (fishing, bike riding, hiking, camping, kayaking).

What I'm looking for: Slower town, Less populated, Good parks, Good Fishing (bass), I work from home so somewhere with good internet is a must, Country(ish) feel, within a close distance to a city (i dont wanna have to drive 30+ mins for gas or groceries), not a high cost of living, somewhere safe, and friendly.

What i dont want: beaches everywhere or tons of people.

Any advice would be welcomed! Thanks in advance!

If you have the option I would suggest sticking with FL given the lack of state income tax. You might check out the Lake City area which would give you a decent population base for meeting people, decent services and utilities (plus high speed internet) and tons of outdoor activities in/around Osceola National Forest including fishing with the Suwanee River and varying lakes. It's a very affordable area too. https://www.springsrus.com/

I suppose you know that you will have a temp change in so-called "Florida winter", coming from South Florida to up here in the northern part, right? It can definitely get cold up here in the winter...…..just to let you know. We've lived in Jax since 2009 and have seen daytime temps as low as 45 degrees at noon and overnight lows of 24 degrees sometimes. Heck, it even snowed in our apt. complex on Christmas Day of 2009. I grabbed our video camera and got it coming down pretty hard, but not sticking. A number of folks were out on their balcony amazed at seeing it.

Northern FL for sure and from the East Coast to the West coast there are areas that would fit your needs. If you want to be close to a major city, then pick near Jacksonville, if a large city central North. The West coast is a bit more isolated except right on the Gulf like Destin. FL definitely over GA.

As previously poster said I’d stick with Northern Florida due to lack of state income tax. That being said, I suggest maybe Nassau county as it is not as crowded as St Johns or Duval counties.

What is it you do for a living that you work from home ?

Im a senior coprorate guest care specialst with a major hotel company. I basically work with companies making sure that the hotel will meet their needs (hotel rooms, conference rooms, and conventions). Pretty boring stuff honestly lol.

Look at the outskirts of Tallahassee, FL. It meets all of your requirements.

I'm Living in The Villages. Best part of this its very cool & not too much people lives here, Which satisfy one of your condition. The median list price per square foot in The Villages is around $150. Also homes for rent are available here for best price with better internet connectivity.
Also you can check Talk of the Villages forum to get exact information about the properties rates there. This would be really helpful for you.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Ocala or Gainesville yet. Sounds like about 15-20 mins outside of one of these towns would be a good fit for this guy.
